
Olive Ica Hull
Olive Ica (Dickson) Hull died
18 September 2011 in Lacey from stomach cancer. Olive was born 12 January 1926
in Bercail, Montana, the daughter of Joseph R.
Dickson and Hazel M. Brown. She married Garry W. Hull of Pe
Ell, Washington in 1951, and was married for 44 years until Garry's death in
1995. Olive graduated from the University of Washington in 1949 (B.A.) and
again in 1973 (M.L.S.). She taught elementary school and was a librarian in the
North Thurston school district. Olive was an avid outdoorswoman, devoted to
hiking, backpacking and climbing. She was a member of the Olympians, the
Wanderers, the Tuesday Trotters and the Olympia Branch of the Mountaineers. In
honor of her continued support for the branch, she received the Mountaineers'
career service award. Olive was a fastidious birder, with over 660 species on
her North American life list. She loved to travel, from Australia to Botswanaland. When she was not chasing penguins in
Antarctica, Olive practiced her fiber arts, especially quilting and knitting.
Olive is survived by her son Joseph and daughter-in-law Tricia Perkins of
Seattle, Washington, her daughter Mary and son-in-law Loren Erickson of
Columbia, Maryland, her brother Charles Dickson and sister-in-law Jo Jeannette
of Azalea, Oregon, and her sister Jo McPherson of Kirkland, Washington. Olive
was blessed with six grandchildren, Delnora Loyd, Patricia Johnson, Shannon, Margaret, Nancy, and Ralph
Erickson. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, 8 October 2011, at Mills
and Mills in Tumwater, starting at 1 p.m. Donations may be made to the
Timberland Regional Library Foundation.
